    Measuring patients' experience of health services and care is an essential part of health policy, regulation and service improvement. It involves seeking feedback from patients on the care and treatment they have received.

    Patient experience

    The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety in Northern Ireland, working in conjunction with health & social care trusts, have carried out the inpatient patient experience survey, the first in a regional programme of patient experience surveys across the health and social care service.

    Patient experience surveys are a means by which the health service can gain a greater understanding of the aspects of care that are of most importance to patients and by effectively measuring and acting upon patients’ feedback, strive for improvement in the quality of care provided to patients.
